I want to share an experience which forces me to think if humanity is completely lost. Today, when I wake up, I saw a missed call from an unknown number. Thankfully, Truecaller displayed the information about the person who called. Moreover, it was 1 am (IST) when call was made. I was startled as I hardly receive calls past midnight.

My mind was not at rest until I found out who called and why. My unrest mind due to an unfinished act reminded me of one of my previous article on Zeigarnik Effect– how the human mind hates unfinished tasks. Unfinished tasks incite psychic tension in you, which acts as a persuasive motivating force to complete the task. The brain is constantly reminded of the unfinished task until you complete the task. As soon as the task is accomplished, tension is alleviated.

Hence, I decided to give a call back to give rest to my mind. However, the person on the other side pretended as if he never called. I had to warn him of the consequence of such pranks if done again. Subsequently, I received a message on WhatsApp from the same number. I was on the verge of losing my temper, yet I took a few deep breaths to calm down. Then I called him back and asked him calmly if he is facing any mental health problem for which he needs help. He was unable to comprehend my question. He just asked what kind of problem? That question itself confirmed that he was not even aware for what he dialed the number late at night. He just found the number to play around with, on the internet and decided to misuse it.

I have recently displayed a note on my website –Please Note-In these unprecedented times of pandemic when everyone is suffering in some or other way, I want to do my bit by providing Pro Bono Counselling Services, for now. If you are reading this, feel free to contact me if you are in need for help. Let’s do our bit to make this world a better place.

Such characters try to defeat the purpose of doing the right thing on humanitarian grounds. Some of them don’t understand the gravity of an issue. Moreover, sharing details for those who really need your help, is used as a mode to stalk and harass. How can I provide help if such kind of insensitive people roam around? Such acts make me wonder if humanity is lost somewhere. Sometime back I saw a quote, where a child is asking a gentleman at a railway station-Sir, ‘Can you tell me a train to a better world?-’ Such an apt question to pose!

I would like to extend my support wholeheartedly in these unprecedented times of covid when my country is suffering beyond any explanation. Cases are increasing so are the death rates. We all are trying to help in whatever way possible for us. Nevertheless, I feel sad when I come across such people who either find a way to make profit or find a way to trouble you beyond explanation.

I know I am not scared of such harassers who simply look for an opportunity to stalk you. I will continue pro-bono counseling services- while handling some of the unwelcome guests too.

Have you encountered any such experience which you might wish to share?
